Social distancing will mean we will be staying further apart from one another physically in the coming weeks. Our team and community were disappointed by the postponement of our 2020 Conference, as well as our fundraising events through the end of June. As a Dravet parent, I recognize the importance of these DSF events for the opportunity to connect with others who understand my family’s journey and struggles. While our patient community understands all too well the importance of self-isolation and remaining safe at home, during these complex times we need to compensate by caring even more about one another than usual. DSF wants to bring the spirit and connection of our live events online, while protecting the health of our community, so we are now offering virtual meet-ups for our U.S. families.

DSF Virtual Meet-ups are interactive discussions rather than a presentation. It is a great way to spend some time with other Dravet parents from the safety of your own home. They are designed to allow you to socialize, chat, trade ideas, and share advice. They are judgement-free spaces where you can be yourself and talk about issues that are affecting you and your family during these uncertain times. We launched our first virtual meet-ups this week and we have the capabilities to increase the number of meet-ups we offer, based on demand. Meet-ups will be hosted on Zoom with a maximum of 15 participants per session. Our moderators will have some questions to get the conversation started, but the meet-ups are designed to be informal sessions to allow our families the opportunity for a more personal social interaction. We understand that most families will not have access to childcare, so we just ask that you utilize the “mute” option to minimize background noise as often as possible.

If you are interested in participating in a future meet-up, you can register based on your DSF Family Network* region at the links below. We are also offering a separate meet-up for parents of patients who are 16 or older.

*Participants must be a member of the DSF Family Network

Supporting each other in times like these is critical. We’re in this together and we’re here to support you! If you have any questions or suggestions for additional groups, please email Jenny.
