This #MemberMonday meet Ryan and his mom, Tina McDermott.
Tina is an active member in the Dravet syndrome community. She serves as a DSF Family Ambassador in the midwest region and also as a DSF Social Ambassador. Her youngest son, Ryan, was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome in 2012 at the age of 6.
During the COVID19 pandemic, Tina made a goal to teach Ryan to say “mama” or “mom.” After working every day and night for nearly 10 weeks, Ryan finally said his first word: Mom.
A local television station learned of Ryan’s big accomplishment and featured Ryan and Tina on the nightly news. You can watch the news clip and hear Ryan say, “Mom” here.
Congratulations Tina and Ryan on reaching such a special milestone.
